Process Development

Project Managers tend to be very process oriented. As a group, we like things standardized, uniform and easily repeatable. That is why I tend to find it amusing that every single job I’ve ever had goes through the process of defining and re-defining their own project delivery process every year or two. As an organization grows and changes, so too does the project deliver process.

Part of my 2007 professional goals are to drive out the project delivery process within our team at work. And in an embarrassingly geeky way, I absolutely love it. I would adore nothing more than setting aside my actual projects in order to have the time to focus exclusively on the process itself.

Alas, that isn’t actually an option. As it is, though, I had a kick-off meeting today with the other PM’s, and they are all rather chomping at the bit to get some new processes in place. I will drive the over-all initiative, but they are all significant contributors whose experience in different areas I need to leverage in order to keep this effort for taking a year to complete.
